Rutterkin Cats

7 kittens born 30 May- red-silver and black-silver boys, tortie silver girl.

Hi! Welcome to Rutterkin Cats, the home of Rutterkin Maine Coons.

We began showing with the GCCF in 1992 with our second British Shorthair, Addeish Speedy Racer (aka ‘Mansell’), a lovely cream neuter.  He became a Grand Premier, but sadly died under anaesthetic at the age of 8.  Mansell was followed by a series of BSH-  none of which was show quality- until Porteous Gipsy Bundle arrived in 1998, courtesy of Celia Leighton.  Gipsy made it to Champion and is our founding breeding queen.  Her son, Rutterkin Mumblin Mosie (‘Nigel’) is a red silver tabby.

The early Bengals were way out of our price-range, but their stunning appearance meant that we were determined to own one.  In 1999 we went to look at a litter bred by Grace Denny in Norfolk.  The only one that she felt was show quality was a girl, and we wanted a boy to have as a neuter.  Predictably, two days later we were back in Norfolk to collect Pi-Den Iceangel (‘Lottie’)!  She is a wonderful blue-eyed snow spotted who has produced some first class kittens for us.  We also have Lottie’s daughter, Rutterkin Sheopur Shamima, an AOC-eyed snow spotted Bengal.

Finally, enter the Maine Coons.  We love their size, and shortly after Mansell died one of  Heather Horton’s cats produced a litter and so Namrib Rutterkinboy was booked.  Thus ‘Winston’, another sed silver classic tabby, joined us.  He was followed in September 2002 by Shookatoo Katarina, an eye catching tortie and white girl.

These are our house cats, who have access to a large run via a cat-flap in the living room wall.  Our other four cats, Rici, Heathcliff, Rory and Peter are allowed their freedom, but rarely wander more than a couple of hundred yards away from our garden!

As time has passed, the Maine Coons have taken over- Poppy died, but Winston is now joined by Clara, Kate, Annie, Alice, Tess  and now little Sky.  Gipsy and my outside neuters have all also died (Rici lived to be 19!) so all the cats I have now are indoor cats, with access to an outdoor run- much safer!”
